What to include in a pitch deck, and what to leave out.

Include what a reader needs to decide whether to meet you. Leave out what they would only want after that decision. Most decks fail by including too much.

  • What the company does, in one line.
  • The problem and who has it.
  • Your solution.
  • Evidence that it works or is wanted.

  • The size of the opportunity.
  • Who is on the team.

Include if you have it

  • Revenue and growth figures.
  • Retention or repeat purchase.
  • Named customers or partners, with permission.
  • A clear comparison with alternatives.

Move to an appendix

  • Detailed financial model.

Leave out

Should financials be in a pitch deck?+

A summary slide, yes. The model belongs in the appendix or a separate file.

Do I include an exit strategy?+
