Biotech · Diagnostics deck
Diagnostics pitch decks from performance data to payment.
A diagnostic is only valuable if it changes a clinical decision and someone pays for it. The deck has to connect test performance to patient care and to reimbursement.
Fixed prices. No calls: you brief us in writing and comment in writing.

How it differs
How a diagnostics deck differs from a general pitch deck
A general startup deck proves customers want a product. A diagnostics deck has to prove three separate things: the test measures accurately, the result identifies the condition, and the result changes what a clinician does. Payment usually depends on the third, so a strong accuracy figure is not enough. The parties also split: a clinician orders, a lab or hospital buys, and an insurer pays. Investors check the study population, the reference standard and the coding path before they look at the sales plan.

The questions behind every slide
What readers of a diagnostics deck ask
Each answer names the slide or document where it belongs. If a question has no home in your deck, the reader will ask it in writing, or stop reading.
- 1
Was performance measured in the intended-use population, or in a selected sample?
The performance slide should state the population, the setting and whether samples were collected prospectively or retrospectively.
- 2
Will you sell a kit to labs, or run the test in your own lab?
The commercial plan slide, with the regulatory route named as your regulatory counsel advises.
- 3
Which billing code would the test use, and is it covered today?
The reimbursement slide, showing the existing or planned code and current coverage status as separate lines.
- 4
What does each test cost to run, and what is it paid?
A unit economics line on the commercial plan slide: cost per test, turnaround time and payment by payer type.
- 5
Who orders the test, and what changes in their workflow?
The clinical utility slide, showing the ordering clinician's step before and after.
- 6
Is there clinical evidence beyond analytical accuracy?
The performance slide should label analytical and clinical results separately, with all studies listed in the clinical data appendix.
- 7
Which study will payers need, and does this round fund it?
The use of funds slide should name that study and its cost.
- 8
How does the test compare with the reference method and competing tests?
The performance slide shows the comparator; a competitive test table goes in the appendix.
Headline rewrites
Slide titles that say something.
A reader skims headlines first. A label tells them the topic; a sentence tells them the point. Bracketed figures are placeholders for your own numbers.

In [X] patients, the test detected [condition] with [X]% sensitivity and [X]% specificity

- Send-ahead version
- Send a PDF with each performance figure footnoted to its study and the full study tables in the appendix.
- Presented version
- Start with the clinical decision, show one performance result, then the payment path.
What belongs in the appendix
- Full performance tables with confidence intervals
- Study protocol summaries
- Analytical validation summary
- Coding and coverage summary
- Cost per test and lab capacity
- Competing test comparison
Before you send it
Diagnostics deck checklist
- Sensitivity, specificity and predictive values each come with population, subject count and reference standard.
- Analytical and clinical results are labeled separately.
- The kit or lab-service model is stated plainly.
- The regulatory route is named only as your regulatory counsel describes it.
- Codes and coverage status are confirmed by your reimbursement adviser.
- The ordering clinician, the paying party and the lab customer appear as separate parties.
- Cost per test and turnaround time are stated.
- Confidence intervals are on the slide or in the appendix.
Glossary
Terms used in a diagnostics deck
- Sensitivity
- Of the people who have the condition, the share the test correctly flags as positive.
- Specificity
- Of the people who do not have the condition, the share the test correctly reports as negative.
- Positive predictive value
- Of the people who test positive, the share who actually have the condition. It depends on how common the condition is.
- Analytical validity
- How accurately and reliably the test measures what it is meant to measure.
- Clinical validity
- How well the test result identifies or predicts the clinical condition of interest.
- Clinical utility
- Whether using the test leads to decisions that improve patient outcomes. Payers often look for it.
