Apps and marketplaces · Subscription app deck
Subscription app decks with the funnel in plain view.
Subscription businesses live on a short chain: install, trial, paid, renewal. A clear deck shows each step and what it costs to start the chain.
Fixed prices. No calls: you brief us in writing and comment in writing.

How it differs
How a subscription app deck differs from a general pitch deck
A general startup deck can show revenue growth as one line. A subscription app deck is read as a chain of conversion steps, each with its own leak: install to trial, trial to paid, paid to renewal. Investors check gross revenue against proceeds after app store fees, and they separate annual and monthly plans because they churn differently. They ask how much churn comes from failed payments rather than choice. Lifetime value is trusted when cohorts are old enough to show it, not when it is projected.

The questions behind every slide
What readers of a subscription app deck ask
Each answer names the slide or document where it belongs. If a question has no home in your deck, the reader will ask it in writing, or stop reading.
- 1
Are you showing gross revenue or proceeds after store fees?
The revenue slide should label which one it shows, and the metrics appendix should give both. Investors model on what you actually receive.
- 2
How do annual plans renew at the end of the first year?
Show first-year renewal for annual plans on the churn slide, separate from monthly churn. Annual cohorts need their own chart.
- 3
How much churn comes from failed payments rather than choice?
Split churn into cancellations and billing failures on the churn slide. Any billing recovery work belongs on the roadmap slide.
- 4
How many new subscribers ask for refunds?
Show refunds next to trial conversion on the funnel slide, since refunds after conversion lower real conversion.
- 5
Hard paywall or freemium, and why?
The plans slide should state the paywall model and the test results behind the choice.
- 6
How long until a subscriber pays back their acquisition cost?
A payback chart by channel on the acquisition slide answers this. Investors often trust it more than modeled lifetime value.
- 7
How much lifetime value is realized and how much is projected?
Show revenue to date per cohort beside any projected lifetime value, each labeled. Projections without cohort history are discounted.
- 8
How do subscribers split across weekly, monthly and annual plans?
A plan mix chart on the plans slide shows the split. It changes how churn should be read.
Headline rewrites
Slide titles that say something.
A reader skims headlines first. A label tells them the topic; a sentence tells them the point. Bracketed figures are placeholders for your own numbers.

After
