By funding stage · Pre-seed deck

Pre-seed pitch decks for the very first round.

At pre-seed there is little data. Investors back the team, the insight and a clear plan for what the money will prove.

Fixed prices. No calls: you brief us in writing and comment in writing.

Insight

What we understand that others missed

Illustration only. Any figures are invented for this sample slide.

Who reads it

Angels, pre-seed funds and accelerators.

Turnaround

5 business days for a design rebuild; 3 business days for an audit.

How it differs

How a pre-seed deck differs from a general pitch deck

A pre-seed deck has the least evidence of any stage, so it rests on the problem, the insight and the team. Compared with a seed deck, it does not need early revenue or a tested go-to-market plan; it needs a believable reason this team will find the answer. Signals such as interviews, a waitlist or a prototype are presented honestly as signals, not as traction. The ask is smaller and tied to learning milestones, such as a working product or first paying users, rather than growth targets.

Slide by slide

What goes in a pre-seed deck

  1. 01

    Problem

Who has it and what it costs them.

  2. 02

    Insight

What you understand that others missed.

  3. 03

    Solution

    What you are building.

  4. 04

    Early signals

    Interviews, waitlist, prototype or pilots.

  5. 05

    Team

    Why you, for this problem.

  6. 06

    Market

    The first segment, sized simply.

  7. 07

    Plan

The next twelve to eighteen months.

  8. 08

    Ask

Amount and the milestones it buys.

The questions behind every slide

What readers of a pre-seed deck ask

Each answer names the slide or document where it belongs. If a question has no home in your deck, the reader will ask it in writing, or stop reading.

  1. 1

Why now: what changed that makes this possible today?

The insight slide should name the change, such as a new technology, a rule or a shift in behavior, and why it was not possible before.

  2. 2

Why is this team the right one for this problem?

The team slide should show founder-market fit: lived experience of the problem, operating experience in the field or access to customers.

  3. 3

Has anyone paid or committed anything yet?

The early signals slide should label each signal by type, such as interviews, waitlist, letters of intent or paid pilots.

  4. 4

What did you learn from customer conversations?

The early signals slide should state the pattern you heard, not only the number of conversations.

  5. 5

    Who builds the product?

The team slide should show who is technical and building today, not a plan to find a technical cofounder later.

  6. 6

What do customers use today instead?

The problem slide should show the current workaround and what it costs them.

  7. 7

What is the biggest risk, and how does this round reduce it?

The plan slide should name the main unknown and the milestone that answers it.

  8. 8

How long will the money last?

The ask slide should state runway in months and the milestones expected before it ends.

Headline rewrites

Slide titles that say something.

A reader skims headlines first. A label tells them the topic; a sentence tells them the point. Bracketed figures are placeholders for your own numbers.

What we fix

Faults we see in pre-seed deck drafts

  • Pretending to have traction.

  • An idea with no insight.

  • An ask without milestones.

What you receive

Documents we produce

  • Investor deck
  • One-page summary
  • Teaser

Every file is delivered editable, in PowerPoint, Google Slides or Keynote, with a PDF for sending. A pre-seed deck rebuild starts at $3,500; the full Raise Set with one-pager and teaser is $10,000.

Format

Length, versions and appendix

Length
Short, with most of the case resting on the problem, the insight and the team.
Send-ahead version
Often sent cold or through an introduction, so the send-ahead version must stand alone.
Presented version
Early calls are conversations; use the deck as a guide and expect to skip around.

What belongs in the appendix

  • Summary of customer interviews
  • Prototype or product screens
  • Current alternatives in detail
  • Twelve to eighteen month plan
  • Longer founder bios

Before you send it

Pre-seed deck checklist

  • The insight fits in one sentence.
  • The why-now change is named.
  • The current workaround is shown.
  • Every early signal is labeled by type.
  • The team slide shows who builds.
  • Milestones carry target dates.
  • Runway is stated in months.
  • Contact details are on the last slide.
