How it differs
How a seed deck differs from a general pitch deck
A seed deck sits between a story and a scorecard. Compared with pre-seed, it needs early evidence that customers want the product: revenue, usage or paid pilots, and first signs that they keep using it. Compared with Series A, it does not need proof of a repeatable sales engine, but it should name the channel that found the first customers and say whether it can repeat. The plan should point at what the next round's investors will check, stated as dated targets.

The questions behind every slide
What readers of a seed deck ask
Each answer names the slide or document where it belongs. If a question has no home in your deck, the reader will ask it in writing, or stop reading.
- 1
What is the single objective of this round?
The ask and milestones slide should state it in one sentence: the amount, the result it buys and the date.
- 2
Is the traction repeatable, or did it come from one-off effort?
The traction slide should label revenue and customers by type and show how they were won.
- 3
Will the channel that found your first customers keep working?
The go-to-market slide should name the channel that worked and the test that shows whether it can repeat.
- 4
Who are your competitors, including doing nothing?
A competition slide should include the status quo and manual workarounds, not only other startups.
- 5
Which key roles are filled, and which are open?
The team slide should show founders and first hires, and name the roles the round will fund.
- 6
What do your numbers look like month by month?
The traction slide should show a dated monthly series, with the full table in the appendix.
- 7
What happens if milestones slip?
The ask slide should state runway in months so the reader can see the room for delay.
- 8
Do the deck and the financial model agree?
Every figure on the traction and ask slides should match the model the investor will receive next.
Headline rewrites
Slide titles that say something.
A reader skims headlines first. A label tells them the topic; a sentence tells them the point. Bracketed figures are placeholders for your own numbers.
